The A’ Level Distance Learning Course is made up of eighteen Sets on British and some foreign archaeology. Students take the examination in June. The examining body is AQA, the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance and their ‘A’ level is the only Archaeology examination available of that standard.

syllabus
The eighteen Sets cover both the compulsory Personal Study and the five Units in the examination. These Units deal with Archaeological Sources and Methods, both Survey and Excavation and Post-Excavation, Dating and Interpretation, Religion and Ritual, Settlement and Social Organisation and Material Culture, Technology and Economics. 
 

personal study
A personal project also has to completed. It should be a piece of individual research running to between 3500 and 4000 words on some aspect of the archaeology of the candidate’s local area.

length of course
The course can be begun at anytime but starting a year before the examination allows enough time for the all the topics to be covered in sufficient detail.

qualification
The course leads to a popular English examination qualification and is also a good introduction to British and associated archaeology.
